#TBT: Interview w/ Donald Dudley, the first African American radio station owner in Seattle (audio)

On this day in 1901, the first radio transmission was sent.

Another first for local radio comes from our UW Libraries Special Collections: A 2013 interview with Donald Dudley, the first African American to own a radio station on the West Coast (KYAC in Seattle/Kirkland) and the 7th black owner in the country.

In this interview — recorded for an oral history project at UW Bothell — Dudley talks about the highs and lows of being with the radio station, referred to as “the soul of the Northwest.”
